Statement from FSAC President, Brett Watson in Response to Incident Behind OCME, Alberta
"On September 9th, 2019, CBC News videotaped the remains of the deceased person being inappropriately handled outside the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). The process witnessed was not in keeping with the standards and practices of Canadian funeral professionals as they care for the needs of the families they serve. Funeral professionals throughout Alberta and Canada are educated, trained and regulated to treat the remains of deceased persons in a manner that reflects dignity, respect and compassion. Funeral professionals across the country continue to hold a sacred trust with families when a loved one is entrusted to the care of a funeral home. We look forward to working with the OCME and the government in ensuring that the standards and practices are followed in the future.” - Brett Watson, FSAC President
