FSAC Receives Acknowledgement of Priority Consideration for Vaccine

FSAC has just achieved recognition from the Federal Government that Bereavement Sector workers should be considered in the 2nd round of vaccinations as essential workers.

According to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) Statement:

Guidance on the prioritization of initial doses of COVID-19 vaccine(s)

Canada’s National Strategy for Critical Infrastructure defines critical infrastructure as the processes, systems, facilities, technologies, networks, assets, and services essential to the health, safety, security or economic well-being of Canadians and the effective functioning of government. Deathcare workers would come in Stage 2 of vaccine delivery, after long-term care homes, 70+ seniors, healthcare workers, and some indigenous communities. Funeral service workers achieved essential service status as Workers performing mortuary services, including funeral homes, crematoriums, and cemetery workers under Public Safety Ministry guidance on Essential Services and Functions in Canada During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This is a federal recommendation and now the Provincial Authorities must be requested to follow the guidance and create their vaccine protocols and priority lists for their citizens, workers and sectors. This is a great first step on behalf of our great profession, having laid the foundation for such a discussion at all levels.
