Scholarships for the 2022 Professional Women's Conference

Thanks to generous donor support, the Funeral Service Foundation has awarded six (6) scholarship opportunities to attend the 2022 Professional Women’s Conference NOVEMBER 5 & 6, 2022 at the Omni King Edward Hotel, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 

 

The conference offers an opportunity to learn, a chance to collaborate, and a structure for networking that elevates the profession and enriches careers. Past scholarship recipients tell us they leave the conference with greater passion for funeral service and renewed energy with which to serve their communities.

 

Deadline for Scholarship Applications Is October 6, 2022.


ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

 

Scholarships are available to female and non-binary funeral professionals and students to attend the Professional Women’s Conference. Applicants are not required to be FSAC members.

 

Each scholarship awarded is valued at approximately $2,000 CDN, which includes a $600 travel allowance, $750 conference registration, networking social night, and a two-night stay at the Omni King Edward Hotel.

  • Eligibility

    To be Eligible to Apply for the Scholarship


    • Professionals must be verifiably employed in funeral service (funeral home, cemetery, crematorium) or related occupations such as a supplier of funeral goods and services.
    • Students must be in good standing and currently enrolled in a Canadian accredited Funeral Services Licensure Program or a United States ABFSE Program. Students who are enrolled, but have not yet begun coursework at the time of application, are not eligible to apply.

  • Submission Requirements

    Each candidate is required to submit the following information:

    • Name
    • Advise if you have previously been awarded a Funeral Service Foundation Professional Development or Academic Scholarship.
    • For Students: A letter of good standing and recommendation from your institution or program director.
    • For Professionals: Your current place of employment and length of time as a licensed professional or supplying goods and services to the death care sector.

    Each candidate is required to select one (1) of the following topics and forward an essay in no more than 250 words and submit a brief video, no longer than two minutes.


    Select one of the following topics to write about:


    1. Describe how attending the Professional Women’s Conference will fuel your career in funeral service.

    2. Describe a time when your leadership skills positively influenced those around you in funeral service.

    3. Describe what you believe is most important when caring for a family whose child has died, or has experienced a pregnancy loss.

    4. It is important for funeral service professionals to find work/life balance describe what you do to practice self-care.


    AND submit a brief 2 minute or less video of yourself to demonstrate the following:


    Tell us about a defining moment that influenced your career.

    • Record your video in an appropriate location with adequate lighting and sound levels.
    • Be sure your background is clutter-free.
    • Dress professionally.
    • Acceptable upload formats include .mp4, link to YouTube, or Vimeo video (be sure it's not marked private).

    Please submit your information, video, and 250-word essay to info@fsac.ca by no later than October 6th, 2022.  Successful candidates that have won a scholarship will be notified by October 15th.

  • Terms and Guidelines

    • Scholarships are available to NFDA and FSAC/AFSC members and non-members.
    • Professionals must be verifiably employed in funeral service (funeral home, cemetery, crematorium) or related occupations such as a supplier of funeral goods and services.
    • Students must be in good standing and currently enrolled in a Canadian accredited Funeral Services Licensure Program or a United States ABFSE Program. Students who are enrolled, but have not yet begun coursework at the time of application, are not eligible to apply.
    • Scholarships are not renewable and a candidate may only receive this scholarship once.
    • Those who have already registered to attend the 2022 Conference may apply.
    • Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, religious beliefs, age, national origin, or disability.
    • If unable to attend designated scholarship events, the scholarship recipient will forfeit their scholarship for that year. 
    • All scholarships are subject to available funds.
    • All award decisions of the Funeral Service Association of Canada are final.
    • Alternates may be selected in the event that a scholarship recipient decides not to accept the award.
    • Only completed applications will be considered. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
    • Recipients will be notified via email.
